Starting from the car park at Auchallater, there are several options for today’s walk. The Corbett Creag nan Ghabar is a fine viewpoint and would be good choice for those amongst us who are, feeling less energetic. The Munro, Carn an Tuirc may be climbed via a landrover track from Loch Callater, or much more interesting via the spectacular Coire Kander.
Perhaps the most popular mountain overlooking Loch Callater is Carn an Saigart Mor, another Munro. A good track leads most of the way to the summit area, where the substantial remains of an English electric Canberra are to be found. This aircraft struck the mountain on the night of 22nd November 1956, sadly with the loss of both crew members. Pay and display now is in situ here.
